Photograph was edited for publication purposes Elton H. Rule was born in Stockton, California on June 13, 1916. He was a local television executive in Los Angeles before moving up the ranks to become president of the American Broadcasting Company (ABC). He is credited with greatly expanding the network's ratings and revenue during his tenure, from 1972-1983. He died in Beverly Hills, California on May 5, 1990. Photograph caption dated June 21, 1965 reads "It pays to watch television. Terry D. Nelson, El Rancho High, and Mark S. Reynolds, Chatsworth High, (right) can testify. Shown here the pair are accepting checks for $500 each from Elton H. Rule, vice president and general manager of KABC-TV. The awards were for outstanding work in the television station's high school TV vocational guidance clinic which accepts 400 students each year."
