Description
Photograph of The "Grizzly Giant" redwood tree in the Mariposa Grove, Yosemite National Park, ca.1915. An automobile with several people in the seats sits in front of the wire fence which protects the massive tree. The diameter of the trunk appears to be at least twice the width of the automobile. The surface of the trunk is dark with grooves that extend to the top of the tree where thick branches display the light groups of leaves. Tall, but relatively thin trees shade the forest surrounding The "Grizzly Giant". Photoprint reads "Said to be the largest and oldest living thing".
