View of a woman giving a literary reading with three men behind her at a patriotic celebration. Text written under photo: "Decoration Day [known as Memorial Day since 1882] celebration in Golden Gate Park May 30, 1919. Literary Exercises held at Music Stand G.G.P. at the planting of a Memorial Arbor [the 'Heroes Grove'] in commemoration of those boys who lost their life [sic] in France."
