Residential buildings are in the foreground, while commercial buildings dominate the rest of the scene. Scattered horse-drawn carriages, wagons, pedestrians and a trolley move about on First Street. Utility lines cross the road. Legible signs include: "Metropolitan Stables", "Job print"..., "Printing", "H. Jevne, wholesale & retail grocer", ..."135", "Los Angeles Printing Co.". Banners stretched across the street read: ..."Agricultural Association"..., ..."Festival [...] at [...] House".
