Charles Handy thought for the day on the benefits of taking time out of each day to pause for reflection to reconnect with the meaning in life. Handy begins the thought discussing how he visited a cathedral to hear an evensong, and how such moments serve as a comma in one's day to pause and reflect. He proceeds to talk about his time spent at a meditational retreat centre where, every three hours, he and others were forced to stop what they were doing and create a space for meditation by emptying their minds. They were thus able to get themselves back on track and restore perspective, and Handy compares that process to the role his thoughts for the day embody. He goes on to state how older rituals that could be used to pace one's day are no longer available, and that people are now left to find their own ways to slow down and reflect.
