Description
"On a country journey in West China a Ginling student slakes her thirst by a drink from a piece of sugar cane. Her bedding roll is at her feet, and her charcoal hand-warmer is strapped to the wheel guard." A young woman is seated on a rickshaw with a large stalk of sugar cane in her hands. A man is bending down, about to pick up the poles so he can driver her.
Ginling College shared the campus of West China Union University during the period when its home campus was occupied by the Japanese during the Sino-Japanese war.
