Photograph caption dated January 7, 1960 reads, "Danny Valdez is tabbed to retain his California featherweight title against Billy Thomas in the 12-round main event tonight at the Olympic Auditorium. Valdez has won 13 out of 15 professional starts and is considered a top prospect in his division. Valdez won the State 126-pound crown Oct. 1 at the Olympic when he outscored Dwight Hawkins." Photograph also used in an article dated July 2, 1959. It reads, "Tops card - Danny Valdez meets Bobby Cervantes in tonight's featherweight main event at the Olympic."
