Redwood. A "burl," but not of the typical bud type. Completely encircled the tree. Salvaged from a felled tree on Mill Creek off Ten-Mile River, near Fort Bragg, California. Fell about 1917, during a cross-tie operation. Square-cut end, to right, is 28" in diameter. Rough end opposite is 30" in diameter. Diameter of burl 8 feet inside bark at 7-8' long. 350 years old plus or minus. Most of sapwood decayed off. 2-5-45. E.F
