Description
The "Armed Forces Pocket Guide to Korea" was published by the Office of the Secretary of Defense in Washington, DC, September 1, 1950, two months after the outbreak of the Korean War. This was likely Williams' personal copy and soldiers can be seen consulting this publication in several of his photos. The pocket guide provides an overview of Korean history, politics, customs, culture, and geography, and includes photographs and hand-drawn illustrations. The final portion of the guide provides language orientation and common phrases.
