Photograph of Mission San Juan Capistrano, showing ruined altar of stone church, California, ca.1900. In the foreground at center, weeds and various types of vegetation can be seen. At center, a small gap is seen between two low, stone walls near the front of the mission. In the large opening within the church at center, the bell tower fell upon the worshippers during an earthquake. At right, a crumbling wall with a rectangular window is visible. In the background at center, a large domed opening can be seen with a small set of stairs at its base. Around the opening, crumbling columns and deteriorating walls are visible.
