Description
View looking north at the Cahuenga Freeway. Automobiles were backed, bumper to bumper for miles. A vista of overheated autos stretched from Hollywood Boulevard to Vineland Avenue, in Studio City. The traffic tangle lasted five hours, and trapped about 15,000 homeward-bound Sunday drivers. Two police traffic division sergeants and 24 patrolmen attempted to break the jam, and all available tow cars were brought out to aid many automobiles stalled by overheating. At the height of the snarl, 125 cars were stalled with vapor locks, as motors of creeping cars became overheated. Photo dated: February 1, 1954.
