Description
Note: Vermutlich Reproduktion eines älteren Photopositivs. (Wuhrmann, A., 1917. Beschreibung zu den Lichtbildern aus Bamum. E-30-0,6).
Note translation: Probably reproduction of older vintage print. - "European houses. Kuti is an Agricultural Research Station about 12 Km south-west of Fumban which was started by Government officials in 1911. It began small but quickly developed into an unexpectedly large settlement, a fine place. House by house it was quickly built up into a large complex, and between each whitewashed building there are large well-organised agricultural plots. The object of the station is to experiment to see which useful plants grow best in the Grasslands of Cameroon and ripen to produce the best results. After a long period of study [sic] maize and cotton have been declared 'the winners'. In Kuti you now find these two crops being especially carefully cultivated in huge fields." (A. Wuhrmann, 1917, "Commentaries on Slides from Bamum", K.388).
