Description
Title supplied by cataloger.; Photograph was edited for publication purposes.
Photograph caption dated January 29, 1966 reads "Actress displays checks -- one for $9000 (above) and other, $5000 -- 'How could I do a thing like that when I have $14,000 in my hand?' asks the film star." Hedy Lamarr had been arrested for shoplifting $86 worth of goods from a May Co. store in the Miracle Mile area. At a news conference held at the Bistro in Beverly Hills the day after she was arrested, Lamarr said she was "mystified" and argued that she had no reason to shoplift given that she had $14,000 worth in checks in her purse.
