Fire at Swanton House
The fire at Swanton House. The hotel was located on Front Street where the current (1999) Post Office is. Since they did not have the equipment to put out a fire, a main goal of early fire brigades was to save as many items from the burning building as possible. In this photograph, fire fighters are removing items from the upper floors and throwing them down to the individuals below.
