Photograph taken in 1952 at the Abbey of Our Lady of Gethsemani, Kentucky. In 1955, 26 brothers from the Abbey of Gethsemani came to Vina, Tehama County, California to found the Abbey of New Clairvaux. This photo is the Gethsemani choir novices. Those in early training who had not yet made their public vows. These were choir religious since they spent 6-8 hours daily in church chanting the liturgy. Most eventually were ordained to the priesthood. Note by Father Mark Achwan
