Description
"Enon: Glocke. Inschrift: Komt want alle dingen zijn nu gereed. Lukas 14.V.17. Komt gij allen! Komt tot hem, Zondaars! Komt. Wat zou U hind'ren? Jesus roept U. Hooert zijn stem. Hij maakt zondaars tot God's kind'ren! Vrij moogt gij tot Jesus gaan: Jesus neemt de zondaars aan. Enon. gegossen von Fr. Gruhl in Kleinwelka bei Bautzen/1870." ("Enon: Bell. Inscription: Komt want alle dingen zijn nu gereed. [Come, for everything is now ready.] Lukas 14.V.17. Komt gij allen! Komt tot hem, Zondaars! Komt. Wat zou U hind'ren? Jesus roept U. Hooert zijn stem. Hij maakt zondaars tot God's kind'ren! Vrij moogt gij tot Jesus gaan: Jesus neemt de zondaars aan. [Come, ye sinners, one and all/ Come, accept His invitation,/ Come, obey His gracious call,/ Come and take His free salvation!/ Firmly in these woords believe:/ Jesus sinners doth receive.] Enon. cast by Fr. Gruhl in Kleinwelka near Bautzen/1870."). The picture shows the top part of a wooden construction that holds a bell. Where the bell is connected to the wooden beam are to heads of angels. On the bell is an inscription in Afrikaans which is difficult to read. Written on the card board: "15.1.34. P. Theile."
Cf. photo no. 9670. -- Photo no. 9670 shows the whole construction with the bell next to the church. -- The first sentence of the inscriptionis a vers from the bible (Luke, 14: 17). The second bigger part of the inscription is a song. The lyrics were written by Erdmann Neumeister in 1718 in German. The English translation of the song which can be found on the internet (www.musicanet.org/robokopp/hymn/jesusinn.htm) was used here. -- The Afrikaans used for the inscription is an older version of the language and not modern Afrikaans.
