Gruhl in Kleinwelka near Bautzen/1870."). The picture shows the top part of a wooden construction that holds a bell. Where the bell is connected to the wooden beam are to heads of angels. On the bell is an inscription in Afrikaans which is difficult to read. Written on the card board: "15.1.34. P. Theile." Cf. photo no. 9670. -- Photo no. 9670 shows the whole construction with the bell next to the church. -- The first sentence of the inscriptionis a vers from the bible (Luke, 14: 17). The second bigger part of the inscription is a song. The lyrics were written by Erdmann Neumeister in 1718 in German. The English translation of the song which can be found on the internet (www.musicanet.org/robokopp/hymn/jesusinn.htm) was used here. -- The Afrikaans used for the inscription is an older version of the language and not modern Afrikaans.
