Description
Kashnor notes, "Shows California as an island, names New Albion, and locates Port Sir. F. Drake; above Cape Blanco is the supposed Strait of Anian, and there is a note that 'These parts being as yet undiscovered, 'tis not certain whether America joins to the North-Eastern part of Tartary, whence it is most probable that it was peopled, being suppos'd to be separated, if at all, but by narrow straits." Kashnor has simply copied the notes he wrote for 093:178M, the 1711 earlier edition of this map. This later edition has two major corrections. California is correctly attached to the mainland, contrary to Kashnor's note above. Also the Kamschatka peninsula is now depicted in northeast Asia. See also 105:243M for another 1711 copy. Lengthy treatises from Sr. Isaac Newton on tide theory and from Dr. Edmond Halley on wind circulation. Wind lines and magnetic variation lines shown in oceans. Many notes.. Prime meridian: Ferro. Relief: pictorial. Projection: Dual Hemisphere. Printing Process: Copper engraving. Other Features: Cartouche. Verso Text: MS notes: 242.
