Image shows school trustees Colonel John Chambers Low and Romayne C. Martin planting a tree in the patio area of Malaga Cove School. Mrs. Martin is holding the tree trunk, while Col. Low shovels in dirt around the tree's base. The school's tower is visible in background. As reported in the Palos Verdes Bulletin (May 1926, p. 2), "The children of Palos Verdes, their parents, teachers and friends, aided by members of the Board of Education, celebrated Arbor Day on April 20th, by planting Oriental Plane Trees on the Malaga Cove School grounds." Romayne Martin (1889-1991), wife of Farnham Martin, Superintendent of Parks for the Palos Verdes Homes Association, was Trustee and Clerk of the Palos Verdes School Board, which formed in 1925. Col. Low (1886-1956), was President of the Palos Verdes Homes Association and School Board.
