Description
The important Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic suffered destruction on multiple occasions since its original construction by King Devanampiya Tissa (250-210 BCE). In its present state, it is also a ruin, which is a multi-pillared edifice standing on a quadrangle measuring 214 feet east to west and 200 feet north to south. An inscribed slab of King Mahinda IV found near a pond is mentioned as an aid to it identification.
