Description
Photograph of the residence of Judge Charles Silent of the law firm, Houghton, Silent and Campbell, Chester Place, Los Angeles, ca.1920. Looking toward the Doheny residence. The home is also known as Child's residence. The 2-story stately house has a tall tower over the main entry. A large Dracena palm (New Zealand, Cordyline Australis, "Dracena Indiosa of Gardners") growing in the center of the grassy yard dominates this perspective. A man in a hat stands at right near some plants growing beside a low hedge. Silent moved to Los Angeles in about 1886. Photoprint reads "New Zealand".
