Description
This 1949 photograph shows the Sacramento Solons baseball team at Edmonds Field, at Riverside Boulevard and Broadway. The season was highlighted by a third place finish in the Pacific Coast League (after finishing in last place the year before) and the completion of the Solons' new home, Edmonds Field. The team's previous home, also called Edmonds Field, was felled by a fire on July 11, 1948. Early rumors of arson were quelled with the Sacramento Fire Department's conclusion that a discarded cigarette was to blame.
