Description
Murals, Republican, Oakman Street, Falls, West Belfast, 1996. Republican intervention in the revisionist debates on Irish history, with quote from Miriam Daly, lecturer in economic and social history at Queen's University Belfast and member of the Irish Republican Socialist Party; she was killed by a UFF assassination squad in 1980. The original quote, often thought to be from Marx, is in fact from Winston Churchill. Image shows Celtic design enclosing representation of woman as truth, with mask of revisionism. A book of Irish history lies open underneath the image. The Irish countryside, with British helicopter flying above it, is background to picture. Mural painted by Ciaran Mckernan, Brian O’Loan and Donal Daly in August 96, Graffiti underneath mural. Republican
