Bob Hope addresses the crowd at the first Marine Day celebration on March 23, 1968. Marine Day was an annual event held at Burbank's Golden Mall in the late 60s and early 70s. Each year, several hundred Marines from Camp Pendleton were invited to a public celebration at the Mall. The event was followed by a trip to Disneyland in which the Marines were accompanied by teen hostesses from local high schools. On the far right in this photo, holding a clipboard, is Burbank City Manager William Fromm, the general chairman of Marine Day. To the left is Sing Out Verdugo, a choral group that performed at the event.
