"Burenkrieg. Abfahrt des 'Kommententen'. Gnadenthal" ("Boer War. Departure of the 'Kommentent'. Genadendal"). On the left the church, on the right a building with a thatched roof. In front of this building two horse carts and people. In between the church and the building with the thatched roof part of a third building can be seen. In the foreground an unmetaled space. The Boer Wars, nowadays called South African Wars, took place between 1880 and 1902. They were a series of conflicts between Britain and several Boer Republics. -- In the list of negatives note: "crossed out". -- The picture was taken by Willibald Paul Schaberg (1900-?). He was a missionary in South Africa West from 1929 to 1939 and again from 1948 onwards. It is not known when he stopped working or died.
