The Fernando Award originated circa 1958 when Chamber of Commerce members made a joint decision to honor someone in the San Fernando Valley who best served the Valley community and its advancement.
Photograph caption dated August 19, 1961 reads, "Runners-up are Lee E. Tripp, center, and Douglas Pedlow Jr."
