Description
Photograph of a Walapai Indian woman and two children camping outside their dwelling, Hackbury, Arizona, ca.1900. The grandmother removed the family from the dwelling because the stove kept it too warm and caused illness. The family grouping are huddled together at center. All are barefoot. The site is littered with blankets, cooking implements, pails, tools, clothing, etc. Brush grows in the background. Hills rise in the distance. A long wooden post sticks up in the foreground at left.
