Description
Charles Handy article on organization behavior in appraisal. Handy emphasizes that the purpose of this article is to explore specific aspects of organization behavior and how these are influenced by the organization itself. He examines appraisal and identifies the problems inherent in designing appraisal systems before proceeding to discuss the appropriateness of differing approaches in appraisal as it pertains to two organizational styles. Handy ultimately concludes that the only organizational rule that consistently reappears and legitimizes itself is the law of reciprocal change, or, the pendulum, and predicts that organizations are entering a state of devolution.
