Description
Mujer del Este de Los Angeles (Lady of the Eastside), Boyle Heights, 1989. 418 South Pecan Street (near 4th Street exit off the 5 Freeway), [Boyle Heights]. The title was inspired by Our Lady Queen of the Angels, the saint after whom the city of Los Angeles was named. The image is an idealistic one, expressing a desire for world harmony by portraying a Latina with the flags of more that 100 countries draped around her. The Mexican flag is over her heart, with that of the United States directly below. Acrylic, 23' x 11', by George Yepes, assisted by Frederick Amador, Edgar Castaneda, Mark A. Callindo, Andy Ortega. Sponsored by Social and Public Art Resource Center. -- Dunitz, Street gallery, rev. 2nd ed., p. 308, #56.
