Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Fanny T. Almaguer was born in 1933 in Mexico and came to Los Angeles in 1964 to get an education. She married Jose Almaguer in 1966 and remained in the United States, raising their fours sons. Jose died in 1973 at the age of 38 and Fanny joined the workforce to provide for the family on her own.
Fanny with her husband Jose, his sister Hortencia, and their niece and nephew Nila and Julio at a picnic in a park in Maywood.
