View of a broad street, receding into the distance; on left is a 1 story building with attached elements in front of 5 round-arches and next to it another wing with an entrance; to its right down the street is a large 3 story building with "Curtis Co." printed on its side; other buildings recede into the distance; on right are other buildings; first building on right is 3 stories with chimneys above each window on 3rd floor; further down the street a tall multi-storied building dominates the skyline.
Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento.
"Baker &: Hamilton Bldg. Left, erected in 1856. Wood Curtis bldg. Metropolitan Baths' bldg., erected in 1854. Was 'Lyon & Curtis in 1880. Old Jones Bldg., later Sam Brannon Hotel, right erected in 1853. Later Tremont Hotel."
