Description
Photograph of an exterior view of the Mission San Luis Rey, showing the main front entrance, before 1875. The main front entrance is shown at center, a tall, three-story adobe structure to the right of which the bell tower is attached, several levels taller in height. To the left, a long, one-story section connects to the main entrance and appears to be the cloister. To the other side farther right of the bell tower, a short wall and gate indicate a cemetary. The multi-tiered roofs of the various buildings of the mission can be seen in the background, covered with terracotta tiles. A man can be seen standing at the precipice of the central building, while another is visible atop the bell tower. A dilapidated wooden trellis stands in the short grass in front.
