Police Chief Daryl Gates displays the city's new recruitment poster at a bus stop at First and Los Angeles Streets at City Hall South. With the donated posters on 100 bus shelters citywide, Gates hopes to recruit 900 people to the police department. At least 400 officers are needed just to maintain the department's size of 7,900 officers, Gates said. The posters show pictures of six officers--men, women, white, black, Hispanic and Asian. Photo dated: July 17, 1989.
