Photograph of Mexicans planting onions on the Petit Ranch, in the San Fernando Valley near Van Nuys, February 3, 1930. Workers scattered across a field of onion beds can be see bent over engaging in a variety of planting-oriented activities. In the foreground, a line of sticks mark off each bed, and a straw hat and wooden box stand in front of these at left. In the background, a row of houses stand before a tree-filled area, and mountains are visible in the distance. Two hundred acres were planted in onions, and about 150 Mexicans did the planting.
