John H. Francis Polytechnic High School opened in 1905, a satellite of Los Angeles High School. It is the second oldest high school in the city. Originally located in Downtown Los Angeles, in February 1957 Polytechnic moved to its present site at 12430 Roscoe Boulevard, in Sun Valley. Former Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley was an alumnus. Photograph caption dated February 17, 1960 reads "Steve Marshall, 16, left, senior at Polytechnic High School, goes over script he wrote, 'Around the World in 80 Minutes.' Two of show's featured performers, Peter Hauber, 18, of Germany, and pretty Agneta Kempel, 17, of Sweden, look on with him. Peter and Agneta are students at Poly High under program of American Field Service, co-sponsor of two-performance show."
