Hollywood director Hal Roach and San Francisco dentist Dr. Charles Strub formed the Los Angeles Turf Club in 1933.
Photograph article dated December 30, 1950 reads, "Virginia Strub, left; Edward Foley, center, and Mrs. Foley look over the day's racing program. The weather was hazy and balmy during the opening day. The Anita Chiquita Handicap was the featured [caption cut off] the day's card."
