Not long after Joan Barry filed the first paternity suit against Chaplin, federal prosecutors brought Mann Act charges against Charlie Chaplin in relation to Barry; he was acquitted. Photograph caption dated March 25, 1944 reads, "The white-haired Chaplin, right, and his attorney, Jerry Giesler, discuss a point during a recess. In the court room, the British-born comedian listened intently as his former prote´ge´ teestified."
