Description
John Parkin, Jr., (1892-1948), early wireless operator and Marin County radio manufacturer in the 1920s. While a high school student, Parkin experiment with wireless at home in San Rafael, California. After graduation, he became the wireless operator on the Oceanic Steamship Company's SS Sonoma. In 1914, he installed the electrical wiring throughout the little community of Bolinas, then enliste in the US Signal Corps. After the war, he established Parkin Manufacturing Company in San Rafael, which built radio instrments and complete receiving sets of his own design. Among his inventions were the moulding dies for bakelite parts used by his company and a mercury variable condenser.
