Description
Photograph of an English trench near Ypres, Belgium, ca.1915. The narrow trench has been deserted by soldiers and has been partially filled with wooden debris from nearby buildings. The ruins of a large brick building are near the edge of the trench at right only a triangular section of the wall remains standing. There is a copse of leafless trees at center near the end of the trench. The frame of a burned-out building is at left, beyond the mounds that form the left side of the trench.
