Photograph caption dated August 19, 1954 reads "Thousands pursue hot rodding here. San Fernando Valley hot rodders may number several thousands, early results of a current San Fernando Valley Times survey reveal today. North Hollywood hot rodder Bill Quirk of Luggers Car Club is shown above in 'dragster,' advanced form of hot rod, which competes at one of several drag strips within a hundred miles of Valley. Quirk, an average Valley boy, attends summer school in mornings, works afternoons and pursues hot rodding interest in spare time. Survey also showed that both sexes, all ages, participate in fast-growing sport."; See images #00140018 through #00140021 for all photos in this series.
