Description
Photograph of South Central Codex, 1995, a public mural, 96 panels in porcelain-enameled steel, by East Los Streetscapers (Wayne Healy and David Botello), painted on the platform level of the Slauson Metro station, 5585 Randolph Street, Los Angeles. This is one of two murals at the station together titled "South Central Suite".
The combined murals "survey a compressed history of South Central Los Angeles. This time period spans from the first few billion years of cosmic accretion, continental drift, and prehistoric life, to the arrival of the first human beings, Native American cultures, Spanish explorers and European technology, Mexican ranchos, the Manifest Destiny, 19th-century urbanization, population boom, new immigrants, Central Avenue society, community activists, and the 21st century." -- http://www.metro.net/about_us/metroart/ma_mrblels.htm.
