Description
General Views -- Mill Valley: Pre-1900 Letter from William B. Tyler, 19691 Mora Drive, Los Altos, CA 94022, dated 8/16/67 to Joseph S. Thompson, 2411 Broadway, SF CA 94115 which accompanied the photograph reads: "…I am sending a photo (I have the glass plate) which my father took in Mill Valley just before the turn of the century. Seems to me it must have been taken from somewhere near your home. With a good glass I can identify: Episcopal Church, Episcopal Parsonage, Sulphur well, Congregational Church, Congregational Meeting Hall, Grammar school (with outdoor privy which turned down about 1900; Note bell tower; Catholic Church; O'Shaughnessy home, Congregation Parsonage just below, The Muntz home, The Folker home, The Marvin home (which we rented Winter of 1898) The Bostwick home and wooded hill behind it; The Frank Runyon home, Kenilworth Inn, I think, beyond Runyon. And then, of course, the beautiful reclining lady, back of it all (Mt. Tam). I should remember every single house, but at 75, names elude me. My mother's home, built in 1900, was at the top of grassy slope back of Catholic Church…" .
