The hangar, located at 3021 Airport Avenue housed DC3s in the 1960s and Howard Hughes planes in the 1970s. Named The Barker Hangar, it is currently used as a venue for corporate and private events. Photograph caption dated September 4, 1956 reads "New research and development laboratory of Lear, Inc., opened today at Santa Monica Municipal Airport. Building houses west coast engineering activities of company's Grand Rapids, Mich., Division. More than 100 engineering specialists will develop instruments and equipment for airplanes and missles (sic) with aid of elaborate computing and test equipment."
