Description
In May, many Los Angeles residents broke out with the "dime chain letter" rash, which was extremely contagious for several weeks until police finally closed the "share-the-wealth" shops. Photo shows patrons thronging to one of the shops to put their names on a list in fervent hope of getting back a small fortune. Some got back quite a bit of money, but most only paid out dimes and stamps with no returns. Photo dated: May 21, 1935.
