Press releases and some clippings compiled by the War Relocation Authority. Press releases include: "A statement of policy of the War Relocation Authority in providing food for Relocation Centers;" "The Japanese and the war manpower shortage," statement endorsing the employment program of the WRA, "War Department releases text of Presidential Citation to 100th Infantry Battalion;" "Pertinent facts about Relocation Centers and Japanese-Americans;" Statement by General H.C. Pratt, Commanding General of the Western Defense Command about releasing incarcerees from camps and it being under his jurisdiction rather than the WRA's; "The War warmed-over," article about discrimination against Japanese-American in Hood River, Oregon by refusing Nisei servicemen's names to be published in a local war memorial, and vocal protests against Japanese Americans returning to the community after incarceration camps close.
The War Relocation Authority (WRA), together with the Wartime Civil Control Administration (WCCA), the Civil Affairs Division (CAD) and the Office of the Commanding General (OFG) of the Western Defense Command (WDC) operated together to segregate and house some 110,000 men women and children from 1942 to 1945. The collection contains documents and photographs relating to the establishment and administrative workings of the (WDC), the (WRA) and the (WCCA) for the year 1942.
