Description
A large crowd of faithful stand as they watch Pope John Paul II officiate an open air mass outside of Our Lady of Suyapa Basilica in Suyapa, a suburb of Tegucigalpa, during his visit to Honduras. A large yellow banner that reads "How beautiful are the feet of the one who announces Peace. Neocatechumenal communities salute the traveling pope." In the background, an extensive mountain range is visible. During his visit to Honduras, Pope John Paul II reinforced the Catholic Church's conservative teachings, warning the faithful to reject all things contrary to the gospel, including "ideologies that lower the dignity of men and women." He also warned lay clergy to beware of being co-opted by "radical political groups." In so doing, he reinforced the Church's opposition to the liberation of the region from foreign intervention and domination. Richard Cross took this image in 1983 while covering the presidential election and War of Liberation in El Salvador.

También advirtió a los ministros laicos, pidiendoles que tuvieran cuidad a que no fueran cooptados por "grupos politicos radicales". Así, el Papa reforzó la oposición de la iglesia hacia la liberación de la región del yugo de la intervención y dominación e
