Description
Photograph of West Lake Park (later MacArthur Park) looking southeast, Los Angeles, ca.1889-1900. A man in a light-colored shirt and hat pilots a row boat and looks at the camera while a woman passenger sits to the left side of the boat holding a parasol over her head. Other boats are visible behind, mostly rowboats, although a sailboat is also visible to the right. Residences are visible on the horizon beyond the lake's shore, along which people are gathered. To the left, extended into the lake, a gazebo shades more visitors. A tall pole with a platform attached stands on the bank to the left of center.
