Title supplied by cataloger. The Los Angeles International Air Meet at Dominguez Field was held January 10 through January 20, 1910 and was one of the earliest airshows in the world and the first major airshow in the United States. It was held in Los Angeles County at Dominguez Field in present-day Carson, California. Spectator turnout numbered approximately 254,000 over 11 days of ticket sales. The Los Angeles Times called it 'one of the greatest public events in the history of the West.' There is a commemorative plaque near the site that reads, 'About one half mile southeast of this spot, on Dominguez Hill in historic Rancho San Pedro, the first air meet in the United States was held during January 10-20, 1910. Subsequently, this area has evolved into one of the world's leading aviation-industrial centers.' The site is a California Historical Landmark # 718. Photograph identifies Chas Hamilton (not visible) in his H-cylinder Curtis plane, and a hot air balloon rented by R. Knabenshue of the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper, taking place at Dominguez Field.
