Description
Note the images for each printing color: yellow, light blue, and red. Ralph Rambo's comments read, "Old German hand-stipple method. Obsolete in USA. From original sketch the artist made a tracing on gelatin with sharp stylus which threw a slight bur. This he powdered with bluine and rubbed down on paper as this, 3, 4, or 5 colors, 12 sometimes. Then he hand-stippled each color using his judgment of color value only. When rephotographed (any size) the superimposed colors was supposed to reproduce the sketch. They did amazingly well. A large vignette of 5 colors required about 48 hours handwork. Today less than 48 minutes by direct color camera separation."
