Description
Note translation: Published as no 6 in the album 'Achtzig Ansichten von der Goldküste (Westafrika) nach Originalaufnahmen des Missionars Fritz Ramseyer', Neuchâtel 1895. (RI). - Caption there: "Section of a termite nest. Termites (white ants) are the main enemy of our buildings on the Gold Coast. They make tunnels underground leading from their nest-hills into the houses and there they eat everything which is not hard enough to resist their teeth. As a result we use Odum for building, a sort of oak." - The French version of the album does not mention Odum wood and simply comments "nothing can resist their mandibles." (PJ 07.1998).
