Description
Photograph of the intersection of North Broadway and First Street in Los Angeles, showing the Taho Building, ca.1940. The six-story Tajo building (which was built in 1897 and was later adopted in 1911 as the law building for the University of Southern California) stands at center, its narrow side facing towards the camera. Below, cars are aligned along the street, in which railcar tracks can be seen. To the left of center a group of seven pedestrians can be seen standing in the center of the street, behind whom a U.S. mail truck can be discerned. A web of cablecar cables can be seen overhead, along with the hills and residences in the background to the right. Legible signs include: "Richpie", "United Stores", "Mandel's Jewelry Store", "Garage" and "Savoy Auto".
